Barney, a shelter dog at the Darlington County Humane Society, has been waiting for a forever home for months. Despite his friendly demeanor and hopeful spirit, his size seems to deter potential adopters at adoption events. During a recent event, while numerous other dogs found their new families, Barney was left unnoticed, leaving staff members disheartened by his continued overlooked status.

Barney is described by Wendy Ransome, the shelter’s foster coordinator, as a playful and affectionate dog who thrives on human companionship. Although he enjoys interacting with other dogs, his true happiness comes from spending time with people. Ransome acknowledges that Barney’s larger size may create hesitation among some adopters, yet she firmly believes that the right person will eventually see his true charms.
